Central Market is pleased to introduce an amazing addition to our already stellar team. Carol Ritchie joins Central Market Southlake as our new Cooking School manager.
Carol's focus is teaching and inspiring the home cook with user-friendly recipes/techniques in three main areas: classic technique, strategies for the quick-cook and heart-healthy fundamentals. And what better place to showcase her amazing talents than right here at Central Market Southlake.
In January 1989, while working as a sales associate in a gourmet shop, Carol was asked to teach a monthly cooking class. When cooking classes began to occupy most of her time, cooking became a full-time occupation for Carol, and she has continued to devote her life to culinary research and recipe development in order to teach and share her cooking experiences with others. She formed her company, “Cookin' with Carol,” to encompass the many areas of her cooking interests: traveling cooking instructor, cooking show host, recipe developer, consultant and spokesperson.
In 1997, she was awarded an IACP Scholarship and studied basic cuisine in France at Ecole Lenôtre, and also attended culinary classes at Ritz Escoffier and Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. Since 1997, Carol has traveled five times to Australia to attend the Tasting Australia international conference, and to study and research Australian cuisine.
As cooking expert for NBC 5 in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, since 1995, Carol cooks and shares her recipes every Saturday (3-minute cooking segments) during the 9 a.m. live news broadcast. Plus, the seventeenth season of Cookin with Carol (30-minute cooking shows; over 540 to date) currently airs daily in North Texas. Cookin' with Carol is a 2001 James Beard Award Nominee for “Best Local Television Cooking Show.”
Carol has appeared on many local and several national television/radio shows, including CBS Saturday Early Show, Cooking Live! (TV Food Network), Health Week (PBS), Health Point (national cable) and QVC (national cable shopping channel). She has received extensive media training in New York and Chicago.
One of the projects Carol is involved with is close to her heart. Since 1996, she continues to serve as a recipe developer and National Volunteer Spokesperson for the American Heart Association cookbooks. Carol has traveled throughout the US promoting heart-health. Her heart-healthy lifestyle has helped lower her cholesterol and risk of heart disease and stroke. It has also infused a heart-felt mission to share her knowledge.
