Expo West is here again!
Hi, my job is to source products for the Healthy Living department for Central Market.
My most favorite time of the year is here - the Natural Products Expo West is going strong. I am back in Anaheim walking the show. This is the best place to see what is new in the natural and organic trade. It is busy! All this trepidation about the economy and you can hardly walk the aisles, it is so crowded.
Lots of emphasis and attention on environmentally "green" items. Recyclability and low impact on the environment are the talking points on many booths and packages. Lots of rainforest products - acai especially - juices, supplements, flavorings, and even in skin care products. More and more vendors are supporting sustainable farming and fair trade causes - using their products as a billboard for doing more. I keep an eye on these kinds of products and will work to get a nice variety into our stores, since this is a topic of growing awareness, especially among the younger generations. Then they can come into the natural product world and make a difference, simply by buying a particular brand. Talk about creating a new way to make a dollar go further!
Some interesting products...lots of healthy toddler foods - organic with DHA and brain building nutrients in them; an entire body care line with fruits of the rainforest incorporated for antiaging effects on the skin; a women's cooperative jewelry line for young girls where each one has a code to use as a key online to take your own princess through many adventures; natural and effective acne skin care; maca powder from S. America for smoothies; Manuka wound honey; and new versions of stevia without the bitterness.
My feet are sore! There are over 1200 booths...and lots of ground to cover. Life is good.
Anne
