Winner, winner, Lemon French Toast dinner!

After two amazing weeks of Citrus Fest, you would think we’d get tired of it all. Not us, not ever – we’re just getting started! And to prove it, our customers turned in some amazing recipes for our first-ever Citrus Fest Recipe Contest. The rules were pretty simple, turn in your favorite recipe with the main theme being citrus. From tangerines to sweet limes, pummelos to Rios Star’s, we received some amazing entries, but we narrowed it down to three finalists. Congratulations to finalists Suzy W., Sarah R. and Sheryl W.! Their amazing entries were Lemon French Toast, Marmalade Skies Cheesecake and Tangerine Chipotle Chicken, respectively. But with a narrow margin, Suzy pulled ahead with a killer Lemon French Toast recipe – congratulations! So, without further adieu, here’s Suzy’s moment in the citrusy sun!

Suzy’s Lemon French Toast

1 Tbsp. lemon zest
2 Tbsp. lemon juice
4 eggs, beaten
Oil spray or ½ Tbsp. butter, melted
8 slices CM Challah Bread, Easter Bread or Lemon Bread, sliced thick
2 lemons each, cut in half
Powdered sugar

Stir zest and lemon juice into beaten eggs; pour into 8x8 casserole dish, or any dish you can use for dipping. Heat skillet over medium-high heat and lightly spray with oil or coat with melted butter. Dip each piece of bread and cook immediately until browned, turning once. Remove from skillet and repeat until all slices are cooked. Serve sprinkled with powdered sugar, squeezing lemon juice on top of each piece. To kick it up a notch, put a heaping glob of lemon butter on top of each slice. Enjoy!
