Zagat's Top Juice, Now at CM!

I’m generally a purist when it comes to my produce; preferring to enjoy everything with a knife and a smile. You really get to discover the depth of flavor of ingredients in their raw state. Cooking just dilutes the good stuff. That being said, we occasionally run across some items that seem to elevate the sum of their parts to a new level. The juices and ciders from Red Jacket Orchards are a great example of this.
Cold-pressed using the rack-and-cloth method, Red Jacket’s juices were rated the “Best on the Planet” by the Zagat survey back in 2008. They only press whole fruit and add absolutely nothing except a little vitamin C to preserve the color. We loved their cider over the winter months, and were equally impressed with their full line of juices; blends of apple and grape, cranberry, raspberry, strawberry, and lemon juices.
Each one is somewhat….polarizing; they taste very much like what they’re made of. Due to their juicing methods, most of the antioxidents and fiber from the fruit make their way straight into the juice, so the flavor has a lot of the subtleties you wouldn’t get from the shelf-stable “cocktail” juices you’d find in the average megamart.
The real winner in the bunch is the seasonal “Joe’s Summer Blend,” a mixture of apple and lemon juices. Although some of the apple undertones are there, it tastes much more lemony than any lemonade I’ve ever tasted…I put down a good two quarts of the stuff when it first arrived!
Give these a try, they're excellent!
