A "Little Twist" for Happy Taste Buds
Add a “little twist” to your Central Market shopping trip this week…
Stop by our bakery for a taste of some Old World sweetness and bring home Rugalach!
Spelled a myriad of ways, Rugelach (Rugulach Ruggelach Rugala Rugela and…) is a traditional Jewish, Eastern European pastry that translates to “little twist” in Yiddish; but whatever spelling you prefer, it simply means super scrumptious!
They may be little, but these bite-sized pastries are big on flavor and a sure thing for happy taste buds!
The twists are made with light cream cheese dough, sprinkled with cinnamon and brown sugar then artfully wrapped around a mixture of fruit, like apricot or raspberry, and nuts. Baked to pastry perfection, at first bite you notice the crisp, flaky layers followed by a luscious, sweet and savoury filling that will have you hooked before the last bite!
While it’s back to work, and back to school as Labor Day festivities come to a close; this week also begins the celebration of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. For observers, it is customary during this time to eat foods that are sweet with flavor and symbolize the sweetness, blessings, and abundance of the New Year ahead… Enter our Rugelach! While Honey Cake (which you can also pick up here at CM) is the more traditional treat during this time; the irresistible, bite-size indulgence of Rugelach make it a popular favorite. So... If it's not already on your CM Shopping list, add Rugalach now - They are hot this month so it’s the perfect time to try something new!
Besides, we could all use a little more sweetness and good-fortune… Especially when it comes by way of heavenly pastry.
