King Cake with Almond Cream

Fat Tuesday fall this year on February 24th and a must in any Mardi Gras party is the famous King Cake.

The King Cake tradition is thought to have been brought to New Orleans from France in 1870. The King Cake is decorated in the three Mardis Gras colors that have historical and symbolic significance.

Purple symbolizes “Justice”, green stands for “Faith”, and gold for “Power”. These colors resemble a jeweled crown honoring the Wise Men who visited the Christ Child on January 6th.

A small plastic baby doll  is supplied with each of our King Cakes. This is part of the King Cake legend! The host carefully places the doll inside the cake from the bottom, so no one can see where it is.

At the party, after the cake is sliced and served,  each person looks to see if their piece has the “baby”. Whichever person says “I’ve got the baby” will have good luck for the year and may be obligated to buy next year's cake.

We offer the traditional King Cake flavored with cinnamon and an almond cream version (which is a must try!!)
