Cabernet & Carmènere with Class from Chile

What is a Chono? I have heard people say “Chono you didn't”, but this is surely not right. Maybe a Chono is a local dialect for ignorant wine tourist… Of course not, I am just seeing if you are paying attention! Chono is a brand of wines from Chile that reflect some of the best terroir and growing regions in Chile and are one of the finds us intrepid wine Mangers brought back from our Wine Safari in South America. All of the Chono wines we tasted were excellent, with the Cabernet and Carmènere being real standouts. I would put both in my top 10 picks from Chile based on their price, character and quality.

Chono Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon: I listed this wine in my field notes as “best cab so far” and gave it 4 stars and a side note of “awesome”. The wine has a dusty, dark, brooding nose with a hint of pepper. It drinks with a dense mouth filling ripeness of blackberry, mulberry, with soft leather nuances and medium tannins. All for just $12.99. A great value!

Chono Reserve Carmènere: This wine was a real surprise, because I did not think I would like it as much as the Cabernet. It has the perfect balance ripe fruit, a meaty, floral, savory herb bouquet, very dense extracted mouth feel and dark black and blue fruits, that are frankly “wow”! Yes this is a “wow” wine!
Very limited availability for the present and still a bargain at $15.99.
