Souper Bowl of Caring

For the second consecutive year, Central Market has teamed up with other local retail outlets and the Dallas Cowboys to help raise 1 million in cash and cans to fight hunger in North Texas. Proceeds will benefit the North Texas Food Bank and Tarrant Area Food Bank, who serve nearly 560 hunger-relief agencies throughout the North Texas region.

The Souper Bowl of Caring is a nationwide, grassroots movement of caring utilizing Super Bowl weekend to mobilize youth to fight hunger and poverty in their local communities

1 in 8 residents in North Texas struggle to provide food for themselves or their families. Among the individuals receiving food aid from the North Texas Food Bank and Tarrant Area Food Bank, more than one-third are children.

The food drive will kick off on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 and run through Super Bowl Sunday, February 1, 2009.

There are many easy ways to participate in Souper Bowl of Caring Dallas/Fort Worth:
1.      Stop by the Souper Bowl of Caring display in any Central Market or one of the 217 participating retailers throughout the DFW area. Purchase a pre-packaged bag of groceries and drop it in the local food bank box inside the store.
2.      Make a cash donation using the special tear pads located at the check-out stand in every store.
3.      Organize your own food drive and donate your collection of non-perishables to the charity of your choice, or, deliver the non-perishable items collected to any Central Market or participating store on Friday, January 30th, 2009 from 8 am - 8 pm. Just locate the store nearest you and call ahead. If your collection is too big for you to transport, please call either the North Texas Food Bank at 214-270-2007 and ask for Jerrye Hall; or, in the Ft. Worth area call the Tarrant Area Food Bank at 817-332-9177, ext. 110, to arrange for a pick up.

Join the fight against hunger with hundreds of other groups and volunteers who participate in Souper Bowl of Caring Dallas/Fort Worth. Together, we can stock the shelves at the food banks and provide hot meals for families and feed the need in North Texas.
