Do the Mollydooker Shake

Sarah & Sparky Marquis' love for wine is an ongoing story that we hope will never end. Year after year, vintage after vintage, harvest after harvest, this Aussie couple doesn’t stop to amaze us. I remember the first wines they produced for the Shrivingtons and Henry’s Drive in the late 90s’. A new “kind” of wine that everybody was looking for. Finding one of their wines was like getting involved in a Crusade. They were a hot product on the market. The powerful style of the 2002 Shirvington Shiraz, the 2001 and 2002 Integrity earned 99 points from Robert Parker. This was the birth of the steroid era. Amateurs of extreme wines had then found the Holy Grail. Today, Sarah & Sparky are finally producing their own label: Mollydooker (Aussie for left hander). The style hasn’t changed, Big and powerful!!!

For this week specials (09/02/09 to 09/08/09), Central Market offers you a great deal on one of the Mollydooker wines: The Boxer. A 100% Shiraz, a wine that will warm you up with its 16.0% alcohol.

It is Big! No, It is HUGE! The robe is made of a dark purple/black color. By just looking at it, you think a tooth pick could stand by itself in the middle of the glass. The wine is so thick and viscous. Aromas of sweet tobacco, cedar box and violets mixed with ripe dark fruits and hints of spices are jumping out of the glass. The palate is over the top: creamy, dense and powerful with lots of currant and blackberry flavors. The oak is well integrated with the fruit and even though this wine sounds like a beast, it is well balanced and expresses some class and elegance. Thanks to Sarah & Sparky Marquis’ magic touch. You definitely need some meat with this kind of wine, red and juicy! Cigar lovers, I can see myself having a few sips of this Shiraz in between some spicy Montecristo #2 puffs.

2008 Mollydooker “The Boxer” Shiraz: Reg. $26.99
This Week $23.99                           SAVE $3.00

Now Ladies & Gentlemen, let’s do the Mollydooker Shake: First, pour out half a glass. Then put the cap back on (yes a cap not a cork). Invert the bottle and shake it baby. Remove the cap to let the nitrogen bubbles out of the bottle. Repeat the shake and enjoy!!! The nitrogen gas is a natural preservative. When you do the Mollydooker shake, you release the gas, allowing young wines to show their full flavor profile. Do not shake any wines over two years old.

Seth's Weekly Pick Ercavio Roble

Parker 90 + pts only $9.95

This weeks flyer item, Ercavio Roble (Tempranillo) from Spain is a must buy. We always feature great values, but rarley so inexpensive and highly rated.

Check out the review below: critical acclaim:

"There are 10,000 cases of the 2007 Ercavio Roble, made up of 100% Cencibel (Tempranillo) and aged for five months in French and American oak. A glass-coating opaque purple in color, it delivers an expressive nose of cedar, earth notes, black cherry, and blackberry liqueur. Thick, dense and opulent on the palate, it has gobs of savory black fruit, licorice and spice notes, enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years, and a lengthy finish. It totally over-delivers for its humble price. This is one to buy by the case."

90+ Points The Wine Advocate

The most imortant review of all is that it is a Department favorite and a Seth’s Pick! Buy Local (opinions that is) Seriously though, this is a fantastic wine at an exceptional price. You save $3.00 a bottle. This is a versatile rich, full-flavored wine that will compliment grilled foods, burgers or pizza. This wine will sell fast, so be sure to shop early and take advantage of this great buy.

"I made my first delivery this morning to Central Market in Southlake and I am so excited! My dream when I started my little bakery last year was to (some day) see my Babies on display at a Central Market, the crème de la crème of grocery stores.  If you haven’t had the pleasure of spending an afternoon strolling the isles of a Central Market, boy are you missing out! Their “sumptuous selection of everything edible” is a feast for the eyes and the palette. The only drawback I’ve discovered while shopping at Central Market is …it’s addictive."

Start summer off right with some awesome watermelons!!

Watermelons are here at Central Market Southlake, and you know what that means - SUMMER!!!

No other fruit says summer like the subtly crunchy, thirst quenching watermelon. And at Central Market, the wonderfully sweet and refreshing fruit is here and in season. Come celebrate the start of the summer season with this wonderful fruit!!

Not only is watermelon delicious, but it holds a plethora of vitamins and antioxidants!!

This delectable thirst-quencher may also help quench the inflammation that contributes to conditions like asthma, atherosclerosis, diabetes, colon cancer and arthritis.

Sweet, juicy watermelon is actually packed with some of the most important antioxidants in nature. Watermelon is an excellent source of vitamin C and a very good source of vitamin A, notably through its concentration of beta-carotene.  A cup of watermelon provides 24.3% of the daily value for vitamin C, and, through its beta-carotene, 11.1% of the DV for vitamin A.

Watermelon is rich in the B vitamins necessary for energy production. Our food ranking system also qualified watermelon as a very good source of vitamin B6 and a good source of vitamin B1, magnesium and potassium.

 History:
Originating in Africa, watermelons were first cultivated in Egypt where testaments to their legacy were recorded in hieroglyphics painted on building walls. The fruit was held is such regard that it was placed in the tombs of many Egyptian kings. It is not surprising that watermelon played such an important role in this country, and subsequently in countries in the Mediterranean region, since water was often in short supply in these areas, and people could depend upon watermelon for its thirst-quenching properties. Watermelons were brought to China around the 10th century and then to the Western Hemisphere shortly after the discovery of the New World. In Russia, where much of the commercial supply of watermelons is grown, there is a popular wine made from this fruit. In addition to Russia, the leading commercial growers of watermelon include China, Turkey, Iran and the United States.
